Hello busy founder or corporate intrapreneur. Here comes a practice sharing from my own experience which I hope will help you gain insights and encourage you keep going with your content strategy. I increased my website visitors by 67% in 4 weeks and website engagement time by 39% with less than 50 USD, and you, as a founder or corporate intrapreneur, can do it, too.
✅TL; DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read)
- Creating a content strategy will help your business. Here is a practice sharing from an ex-corporate turned founder with ROI (details in the end) in 4 weeks without spending thousands on paid media.
- Is it easy? No. It will require your time as an investment. As time also has a value, I cannot not mention it here.
- Is it simple? Yes. Anyone can do it.
- Is it consistent? I don’t have data to prove yet for this specific example. And yes, based on years of experience in the digital marketing and communications world, I have first-hand experienced that developing a relevant and customer-oriented content strategy helps digital growth.
✅WHY AM I SHARING?
Because you or your team can do it, too, if your website, e-project or online business is new, your advertising budget is limited, and you want to focus. If you have a high budget, this is great, you can also combine this learning with paid media to drive more traffic to your e-platform.
✅BEFORE (CONTEXT)
- I launched my new website a few months ago on a no-code platform called Kajabi. On International Women’s Day, the 8th of March:)
- I have not done any paid advertising (yet).
- I aimed to prioritize organic growth. Of course, this varies from brand to brand and strategy to strategy. In an ideal world, and if I were a consultant for my brand, I`d recommend myself spending “at least” 20% of my budget to advertise by using SEM (Search Engine Marketing), short videos, social media, or influencer marketing. And my world is not ideal “yet” :), so I use different tactics as a part of my strategy.
- My website stats were average, and one month quite above average (for a new website).
✅WHAT DID I DO?
- Developed a content strategy around three pillars (Inspire, Educate, Entertain).
- Did research on the digital demand for these content pillars.
- Started being active & consistent on LinkedIn.
✅HOW?
✔️Step 1: Researched the data about content demand.
I asked: “What do people often ask on the career coaching, executive coaching, leadership, #reskilling, digital #upskilling topics? Which content can bring them the most value?” and searched for data with relevant keywords.
There are so many tools, and I preferred the ones below because they are simple, free, and easy to use:
- Youtube’s Search Data (This is about going to Youtube and searching for most viewed videos on the topic that your business is about. You can use Google Trends and filter with Youtube searches, too. Why Youtube? Because it`s the 2nd biggest search engine in the world, short videos are a rising trend, and based on previous experience believe this platform brings better ROI (Return on Investment) for long term organic growth strategies.
✔️Step 2: Created the content for two platforms: LinkedIn & website. Used:
- Canva: For visuals and infographics
- Grammarly: To check the grammar & punctuation
PS: As I am writing this on the 10th of July, 2023, I have no affiliation with any of the websites I am recommending. These recommendations are based on my personal view and experiences when using them.
✔️Step 3: Started sharing (last month).
- Call to Actions: Updated my LinkedIn profile, focused on the “Featured” & “About” sections by adding website links.
- LinkedIn: Turned the “Creator Mode” on. I shared ten posts in June.
- Website: Published nine new posts.
✅AFTER (RESULTS in 28 DAYS in JUNE)
1. Visitors were up by 67% (Vanity Metric)
2. Engagement time was up by 39% (Engagement Metric)
3. ROI (Conversion Metric):
- My LinkedIn SSI Industry Index improved by 82%.
- The number of discovery call requests I received through LinkedIn increased by about 60%.
- There is more, here and I`ll share later once / if all is confirmed.
4. Personal comfort zone:
- When I first started posting after ages, the number of times I felt uncomfortable increased by 33%😊 or higher.
- Number of times I checked website figures and conversion rates stayed stable twice daily.
- Number of times I said I would drink less coffee stayed unchanged.
✅Good luck, busy leader! I hope this helps if you are starting your journey or looking for ways to optimize either alone or with an agency. The insights can help to identify what to use as very basic KPIs or when briefing your digital marketing agency. If you are from the corporate world and have a good marketing budget, please remember that content marketing will be only a part of your omnichannel or multichannel strategy.
